Hello all international clients! My name is Therese De Liz, MA, LMHC and I am the owner and CEO of Global Counseling. I am a trained as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and European certified Psychologist and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and offer eclectic personalized counseling and psychotherapy with the flexibility of the Internet. Secure video streaming enables effective outpatient, individualized, psychological care and provides a neutral ground to individuals, families, and couples to better cope with their situations.
My interest in supporting expatriates developed over the span of 30 years, living as an international expatriate myself. These experiences have shaped my open-minded, tolerant and nonjudgmental manner. I have always been passionate about understanding how others feel and humbled to share their journey to happiness.
My life and career started with my family's move to Paris, France. Later my family moved to Germany, where I worked as a English-German interpreter and English tutor. Somewhere in those years I ventured to England to study English literature. My great chance came after the fall of the Berlin Wall, where I moved to live and study in Jena, in former East Germany. After completing my master’s degree in psychology, I continued school to train to be a psychotherapist, clocking more than 3,000 patient therapy hours over the course of several years. I gained experience working in a leading university hospital as a psychologist in the cardiac unit, dental clinic and women's clinic. Later I taught psychosomatics and intervention to pre-med students. In my former private practice in Munich, Germany, I enjoyed working with international students, expatriates and their families, as well as with Germans in their native language.
Our treatment focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. Our online office provides you with an electronically secure and safe space where you can be yourself, without judgment, pressure or criticism. Together we can define your therapy goals and customize a treatment plan to fit your lifestyle.
Online counseling provides flexible solutions for those seeking support where face-to-face sessions in their native language (English, German) are not readily available. Online counseling is also ideal for professionals on the go and those who travel frequently to maintain an effective connection to their therapist for continued success in their endeavors. We also offer preparation advice and cultural adjustment support during the relocation process to an overseas assignment for the individual or the entire family. Expatriates and families returning home from abroad can rely on superlative online support and counseling to readjust to their surroundings and overcome reverse culture shock in a timely manner.
Our goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life. My motivation is to work with you as a team to reach the happiness and life satisfaction you deserve. Your life is important, and we are here to listen
As exciting as it is to live in a new country, it comes with great challenges. Transition stress, acculturation difficulties and culture shock may hinder you in your professional career, personal life success and happiness. Couples and families may feel alienated by a new language and socially inept to adjust accordingly. The well-versed social and professional scripts from back home become awkward and inadequate, causing feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem. Children and teens may find it difficult to adjust to a new school setting, especially when their best friends are 1,000's of miles away. Homesickness may bear down heavily and prevent individuals from developing new skills and living in the present. Together we can work on adjustment, coping and integrating new experiences in your life narrative. I can support you in your journey to happiness, step by step. Get ready to see the sun rise again.
Online counseling is a rising star among the range of therapy modes and offers effective and efficient support from the convenience of home. Research shows that there is a major shortage of mental health professionals in rural areas but also in large cities where practices may be booked for months on end. Online counseling is often the more practical, accessible and affordable choice.
For some conditions online counseling may not be the treatment of choice, such as in emergency situations, urgent crises, severe mental illness, court-ordered therapy and suicidal ideation. We urge you to contact your local authorities if any of the above apply to you.
I am licensed in the state of Florida and internationally.
For Florida residents: Should you feel in need of urgent help please call 1-800-273-TALK 24 hours a day or 911.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy allows my international clients examine the depth of individual experiences in the past, present and future with the counselor as a witness and guide. By talking about emotions and identifying recurring patterns of thoughts, emotions and behaviors, the client will understand how these affect their intra- and interpersonal relationships today. The dynamic process of reviewing a client’s narrative leads to a positive sense of self and the ability to adapt and practice more productive behaviors in the future. I combine this method with practical and useful exercises to enhance the self-learning experience.
Depression is a persistent feeling of sadness that affects normal, everyday functioning and can cause deep rooted sadness, irritability, restlessness, insomnia, waking up too early or too late, loss of appetite or overeating, trouble concentrating, feeling constantly tired, guilty, helpless or even worthless.
Severe depression can lead to latent or active thoughts and plans of suicide. For this reason, online therapy is not the right treatment for those with severe depression.
Being in a relationship or marriage is hard work. It's easy to get caught in life's tangled web and overlook the importance of positive communication, love and respect in your relationship. This may lead to dissatisfaction, unhappiness, and the search for external compensation. Research indicates that most couples seek therapy long after problems have manifested, thus reducing their chance of recovery. Let us work together here and now to strengthen your bond and rediscover your happiness.
Social anxiety, also known as social phobia, is the fear of being the center of attention and being judged negatively by others. This fear may be so overwhelming that individuals begin to avoid certain situations altogether, causing feelings of isolation and low self-esteem. Some may be able to perform well on an academic or professional level where certain interactive ‘scripts’ exist, but fail painfully in social situations where these are lacking. In our sessions we can identify these negative beliefs, discredit them and build new and functional ways to interact with others.
We offer a free 20-minute consultation to assess your situation, see if we are a good 'fit' and if we are able to offer you what you need.
Try it out at no obligation whatsoever and see if online therapy is right for you and your lifestyle. Just use the contact form below and we will send you a secure token for your personal assessment session.
We offer students and those with financial hardship fees on a sliding scale.
