Hello all international clients! My name is Therese De Liz, MA, LMHC and I am the owner and CEO of Global Counseling. I am a trained as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and European certified Psychologist and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and offer eclectic personalized counseling and psychotherapy with the flexibility of the internet. My interest in supporting expatriates developed over the span of 30 years, living as an international expatriate myself. These experiences have shaped my open-minded, tolerant and nonjudgmental manner. I have always been passionate about understanding how others feel and humbled to share their journey to happiness.
My life and career started with my family's move to Paris, France. Later my family moved to Germany, where I worked as a English-German interpreter and English tutor. Somewhere in those years I ventured to England to study English literature. My great chance came after the fall of the Berlin Wall, where I moved to live and study in Jena, in former East Germany. After completing my master’s degree in psychology, I continued school to train to be a psychotherapist, clocking more than 3,000 patient therapy hours over the course of several years. I gained experience working in a leading university hospital as a psychologist in the cardiac unit, dental clinic and women's clinic. Later I taught psychosomatics and intervention to pre-med students. In my former private practice in Munich, Germany, I enjoyed working with international students, expatriates and their families, as well as with Germans in their native language.

Research shows that there is a major shortage of mental health professionals in rural areas but also in large cities where practices may be booked for months on end. Psychodynamic psychotherapy allows my international clients examine the depth of individual experiences in the past, present and future with the counselor as a witness and guide. By talking about emotions and identifying recurring patterns of thoughts, emotions and behaviors, the client will understand how these affect their intra- and interpersonal relationships today. The dynamic process of reviewing a client’s narrative leads to a positive sense of self and the ability to adapt and practice more productive behaviors in the future. I combine this method with practical and useful exercises to enhance the self-learning experience.
Depression is a persistent feeling of sadness that affects normal, everyday functioning and can cause deep rooted sadness, irritability, restlessness, insomnia, waking up too early or too late, loss of appetite or overeating, trouble concentrating, feeling constantly tired, guilty, helpless or even worthless.
Severe depression can lead to latent or active thoughts and plans of suicide. For this reason, online therapy is not the right treatment for those with severe depression.
